The Chance Encounter

By Dena Grabinar

So, let’s start with some advice. If you value your sanity, trust me on this: never, ever, sleep with a god. Not even a minor one. Major, minor, local or pan-universal, it really makes no difference. They are the beginning and end of all trouble. I should know.

Into the Treetop

By Matt Phillips

I'll never forget the night last summer when I woke up in a tree.

I hadn't been sleeping well at all in the past week. It was this recurring dream. Someone was holding me upside down outside of a window on the 90th floor of the Empire State Building, demanding information about stolen jewelry or something. I never gave them any information; after all, I was innocent! So, down I go, falling, falling... until I woke up in a cold sweat.

The truth is hard to swallow

By Martin Gleason

I've kept this from my friends and family long enough, but with the events of two weeks ago, I can no longer keep it a secret.

Insomniac

By Andrea Phillips

Yes, I read about the Insomniac in the papers, too. --Actually, I know her, can you believe it? We went to high school together. Yeah, for real.

I can't decide if I want to look at diamonds or sapphires today. It's for a blue gown, but I wouldn't want to be too matchy-matchy, you know? Why don't you take them all out so I can see?

Epilogue: What I wasn't prepared for

By Tom Bridge

In retrospect, the worst part about being an electronics whisperer was that I was entirely unprepared for the consequences of walking in on my Blu-Ray Player getting it on with the Tuner.

Whisper

By John Evans

It began with a dream.

I had been reading Edwin A. Abbott's "Flatland" before bed. Rereading it, I first encountered it years ago. The inhabitants of Flatland are unable to see outside their two-dimensional world; the Sphere is able to appear and disappear at will by moving in and out of the Flatland plane, stupefying its denizens with his paranormal ability.

My mind went over and over it. I imagined moving away from the world, moving out and away from the people around me. Back and forth, sliding in and out of reality, helplessly tossed by some unseen current.

So what if I smell!

By sifaka1026

Last year I the cosmetics company I worked for summoned me to a meeting to discuss a new fragrance we had in development. Management had discovered that one of our chemists was adding components to the formula that were not pre-approved. I was asked to investigate and make sure that all of the contaminated samples were destroyed.

That Morning

By Kendall Whitehouse

It felt like a dream. At first, I thought it was a dream. That morning as I awoke in my bed I realized that...well, that I wasn't actually in the bed. I was above it. Floating. In the air about four feet above the sheets.

My super first day

By Rhyana

I don't have much time to write this all down, but here we go.

In a few hours I'll be celebrating with the others like myself in a dedication dinner at the mayor's mansion. It's strange, a year of being what I had read about in comics, it still doesn't seem real. A year ago yesterday I was just a normal, everyday gal going to a dead-end job. Now, I hear the call, slip into something comfortable and fly off to help out my home town.

Awakening

By Martin Aggett

On some level I’ve always known I was unique; different from all the others, but it was only a year ago that I awoke to the full realization of my true nature. If I would have been more observant I could have seen the inconsistencies in my life, which eventually led to my awakening, much sooner.
